Recognizing the research potential,
UGC has accorded SAP-DRS status to this Department
with a financial support of Rs. 37 lakhs (1995-2000)
which has been subsequently extended with a grant
of Rs. 49 lakhs for another 5 years (DRS-II phase

In recognition of the research
contribution in Environmental Sciences, Ministry
of Environment and Forestry, Government of India
created Environmental Information System Node (EMCB-ENVIS)
in this Department with a grant of Rs. 7.75 lakhs
per annum to develop scientific database on Microorganisms
and Environment Management, and to disseminate this
information through web-enabled mechanisms.
In appreciation of the quality
of teaching and research outputs in terms of generation
of scientific manpower, UGC came forward with a
grant of Rs. 59 lakhs under COSIST programme (2002-2007)
